Anyone can do it. Anyone can be strong and anyone can be healthy. Our school puts emphasis on Karate and its hand movements as a method of self-defense, not as a competition. We practice breathing and self-defense movements while aiming at improving our body and mind at the same time. Along with our training, we exchange friendship in order to attain a better life. Furthermore, as part of our mission we engage in activities that make contributions to international causes.

Daijayama is the Fire Spitting Dragon from Fukuoka Prefecture in Kyushu. Each summer the Daijayama Summer Festival attracts over 400,000 spectators, celebrating an old legend dating back over a thousand years. Dragon floats parade through the main streets in Fukuoka Prefecture each July manned by thousands of people. Folklore has it that the dragon is a water god, blessing the farmlands with water and children with good health.
The Honolulu Festival will feature this towering dragon float measuring 20 feet in height and 33 feet in length at the Grand Parade. It will be manned by over 200 people. Fireworks will light up the skies of Waikiki as the performers dance to the drums and flutes of traditional Japan. The Honolulu Daijayama, full of energy and excitement, is a performance that should not be missed.

Kurume Jojima Ryujindaiko

Kurume Jojima Ryujindaiko was created to preserve our local cultural traditions. We strive each day to pass the art of wadaiko on to the next generation as well as to develop wholesome young people. We are practicing day and night so that we may perform in perfect unison for you and share the beauty of wadaiko. This is our first time to participate at the Honolulu Festival. Unfortunately the children of our group will not be able to attend due to their busy graduation ceremony schedules. But the adult members will represent Kurume City on their behalf and do a great job. We hope that you will all come to enjoy our performance.
In 2002 the elementary school system was revised to a five days a week curriculum. Our group was organized since to develop our youth into wholesome and healthy children. We were able to create a new culture, something that we did not have at Zendoji. Zendoji Yamabiko Daiko was initiated by our elementary school representative. And our name was given in honor of the echo that can be heard at Mt. Miminou. Our participants consist of ten powerful high school students. They have just completed their final exams and now are able to concentrate on practicing for this performance. Our group is made up of children and we hope that they will not inconvenience you. We ask you to cheer them on with open and loving hearts. The sound of their taiko will energize you. Please enjoy our powerful and youthful taiko performance.

We are from the city of Bungotakada in Oita Prefecture. We will be performing a simple yet lively folkdance that originated 280 years ago during the Edo Period. This dance is performed only by women. We start dancing gracefully in our Yukata (Female Dance), then all of a sudden move on to a more aggressive form of dance in our Happi coats. (Male Dance)
