Maui High School won the 7th Annual Maui Mikoshi Design Contest out of 3 previous winning schools in Maui including Henry Perrine Baldwin High School, St. Anthony High School and Lahainaluna High School.

There were flags of Japan and the State of Hawaii on top of the mikoshi. Also, the design included the illustrations of Hawaiian sea turtle, Japanese carp, Hawaiian hibiscus and Japanese cherry blossom, which nicely incorporated the cultural symbols to depict contrasts between Hawaii and Japan.

Furthermore, the wind wave, paddle and surf board were designed on the mikoshi which reminded of Hawaii. Also, there were decorations of lanterns and dragon which were symbolizing Japan.
