Chiba
In Hawaiian language, lau means “leaf” and kaukani means “thousand.” We named our hula team Lau Kaukani “thousand leaves” as it is the literal translation of Chiba, our hometown in Japan.

LAU KAUKANI is a Hawaiian word where LAU means the leaf and KAUKANI has been translated as a thousand. We tried to Lau Kaukani because it leaves thousands of lives in CHIBA prefecture. On the basis of the Aloha spirit, let’s enjoy the Ukulele and Hula together.
Our members love Hawaiian culture, especially its music and hula. We practice grace, kindness, united harmony, joy with a humble heart, patience and endurance, values that represent the spirit of ALOHA. And with this spirit, we enjoy ukulele and hula.

We spent our youth during the time Hawaiian music became very popular in Japan. Our group of friends learned about Hawaiian culture, especially Hawaiian music and hula. We now play the ukulele as a group, regardless of music genre, and are enjoying performing for others.
Lehua was organized in 1998 as a group who loves Hawaii’s culture, the ukulele and hula. We enjoy our lessons so that we can enjoy our performances at the Honolulu Festival and our two other annual events.
Our official name is “Lehua Kamaainas” however we simply call ourselves “Lehua”. Our group was organized in April 1998 to connect those living in the Tokyo, Chiba and Saitama area who enjoy Hawaiian culture, its music and dance. We exemplify the aloha spirit by playing the ukulele and steel guitar and enjoying the hula.
The Honolulu Festival is Hawaii's premier cultural event, promoting understanding, economic cooperation and ethnic harmony between the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim region.
