We are the first Hawaiian hula group to be organized in Kyoto. “Poni” means “purple” and “ohe” means “bamboo” in the Hawaiian language. It also refers to something of high quality. We revere the Hawaiian spirit and practice our hula with love, appreciation and a smiling face.
Poniohe Kaya Hula Dance Studio members started learning hula as a means to raise the status of women in the community. This year marks our 24th anniversary, and we have now grown to more than 70 members. We hold hula demonstrations five times a year.
Our love for Hawaii is deep and from our hearts, and we dance hula striving to express this thought. Please join us!
