Iwate
The Deer Dance is the Iwate prefecture’s most famous performing art and is recognized as the Intangible Folk Customs and Cultural Asset. Performers wear a deer head with horns, and their backs are covered by an overcoat called “Sasara.” While vigorously beating a drum tied on to their waists, they sing and dance in a grand fashion.
